Chako

CHAKO, founded in 2010, is a Social Enterprise in Zanzibar that collects bottles from the garbage that have brightened up nights in restaurants, hotels and resorts on the island and turns them into lamps, vases, glasses, candle holders and more.

Our mission is to increase economic opportunities on the island of Zanzibar by enabling local artisans to expand their product ranges, network and connect with wider markets.

Chako

A new life for the garbage left behind by tourist activity

All products are made locally, combining local waste and materials. In this way, the Zanzibar community is stimulated and a circular economy is created, while offering a nice souvenir for tourists to take home!

CHAKO also promotes learning by doing and encourages local artisans, mostly women, to be creative and artistic without any limitations.

United to Remake, which also presents its own collection of products in the Merece store, brought Chako representation to Portugal. Within the Merece store, these pieces are supplied by United to Remake.
